A young girl was allegedly molested and assaulted by a drunk, 18-year-old boy at a movie theatre in Goregaon. The police immediately arrested the youth after receiving a complaint from the victim along with a movie theatre worker on Sunday night.
According to police officials, the 26-year-old girl went for the Sunday evening show of Hindi movie, Tamasha.
She was sitting alone among the middle seats of the Goregaon movie theatre when the accused, Rehman Shaikh, came and sat right next to her. According to the police, “The girl has written in her complaint that 10 minutes after the movie started, Shaikh sat in an empty seat beside her. Later, he allegedly started touching her hands and legs inappropriately. The girl started feeling awkward and therefore, shifted to another seat. The accused again sat next to her seat and tried to molest her.”
A worker of the movie theatre told the police that he came to know about the situation after he heard the girl scream.
The police said, “He told us that he saw Shaikh holding the girl’s hand tightly. When the worker requested the accused to leave the girl’s hand and move out of the theatre, Shaikh abused him several times. The worker then called a few more workers and took Shaikh to the police station and filed a complaint against him.”
“We arrested Shaikh under Sections 354 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code. We produced him before a local court on Monday, which remanded him to police custody till December 14. We are searching whether the accused has a criminal background or not. He had left his studies a few years ago and was indulging in anti-social activities in the area,” the police added.
