Youth suspected of joining ISIS traced in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) has managed to trace one of the three youths who had fled from the Malwani area of Malad (west) and is bringing him back from Pune. It was strongly suspected the trio wanted to join ISIS.
Special inspector general Niket Kaushik of Maharashtra ATS confirmed the development, but refused to divulge any further details.
Taking a serious note of the issue, a senior ATS officer said, “We have informed all our anti-terror cells to keep a tap on the youngsters who have gone missing. We have given a note with 37 questions to every anti-terror cell to check about every individual who goes missing. If anything suspicious is found on them then we have to be alerted. There are several youngsters from Maharashtra who go missing everyday and not everyone joins ISIS.”
One of the three youths, Wazid Shaikh (25), a commerce graduate, was traced in Maharashtra and will soon be brought back to the city. It’s not clear if any action will be initiated against Shaikh. Speaking to The Asian Age over the phone, Shaikh’s sister Meshruammissa said, “Allah is great. I am very thankful to the ATS. My brother did not contact us since he left. I did not know how to trace him. We are extremely happy and thankful. The whole family was worried.” However, there are no leads on the two other youths Ayaz Sultan and Mohsin Shaikh (26), an auto driver.
