A professor from St Xavier’s College (autonomous), CST, has been issued a warning letter for breaking college rules and protocol by sharing with the media the findings of a survey conducted by students. The survey, dealing with the views of 5,000 students from 25 city colleges had asked them questions regarding their satisfation with the current education system. According to college sources, after the survey was reported in the media, the college management reprimanded Prof. Avkash Jadhav who had commissioned the survey. “The principal Father Frazer Mascarenhes pulled up Prof. Jadhav for giving out information to the media. He was warned against resorting to such means again, failing which action would be initiated against him,” a source said. Nearly half the students surveyed had shown their dislike for the current education system and said that they wanted more practical learning with field and industrial visits. When contacted, Prof. Jadhav admitted to have been warned by the management and said, “I was told to collect a warning letter and give an undertaking promising not to bypass the authorities.” Attempts to contact Fr Mascarenhes were unsuccessful. In a text message, he said he couldn’t talk as he was travelling.
