Women to get toilets, buses, insurance

The minister also announced 300 buses only for women in Mumbai, Nagpur and Nashik. Promising to work for welfare of the poor, the weak, the destitute and windows, the government has increased grants to them under a few schemes.

“The length of state highways is nearly 40,000 km. For providing washrooms for ladies who travel on these roads, one washroom with all modernised facilities per 100 km will be built. I proposed an outlay of Rs 50 crore in this year to develop 400 such washrooms,” Mr Mungantiwar said.

The anganwadi workers, mini Anganwadi workers and helpers in different anganwadis in Maharashtra will be covered under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyotri Scheme’ and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Vima Yojana’ providing life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh and accidental cover up to Rs 2 lakh. The state will pay insurance premium under the scheme.

The state government has accorded approval to hike the grant given under Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Anudan Yojana and Shawan Bal Seva Rajyanivrutti Vetan Yojana. A monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 will be extended to beneficiaries with two kids, Rs 850 crore to beneficiaries with one child and Rs 700 to issueless persons.

The state has proposed to launch 300 special ‘Tejasvini Buses’, which will be run for women. “In Mumbai city, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur, Kalyan, Dombivali etc., while commuting to their work places, my dear sisters use bus transportation. During the journey they have to face many problems. This is really a matter of concern. To ease their problem, 300 special Tejasvini buses will be run for them. The state sanctions Rs 50 crore for it,” Mr Mungantiwar said.
