A 26-year-old woman was found dead, packed in a plastic drum, at her Mumbra residence on Tuesday afternoon. Her father had filed a missing complaint at Mumbra police station two weeks ago.
The deceased, Neha Pawar, was living independently at a residential society in Diva. Police officers said that her father, who used to visit her place often in the evening, found her door locked since September 12. Initially, he tried calling her but after she did not pick up his call for almost a week, he decided to file a missing complaint.
Acting on the complaint, the Mumbra police tried to find her, suspecting she had run away with her boyfriend.
According to sources, “A week ago, one of the society members asked the police to check her house as there was a foul smell emanating from inside. However, the police took six days to visit the society to check the deceased’s room. It was only on Tuesday that they found her body packed in a plastic drum.”
“We suspect one of her neighbours, a tenant, who is also missing ever since she went missing. On September 11, a neighbour saw them fighting loudly and later, the girl went missing and so did the man. We are looking for him,” said a Mumbra police officer.
