Woman, minor daughter attacked in train robbery near Daund
A woman and her minor daughter were viciously attacked while travelling aboard the Azad Hind Express from Bilaspur to Pune.

A woman and her minor daughter were viciously attacked while travelling aboard the Azad Hind Express from Bilaspur to Pune. The incident occurred near Daund railway station at about 5.30 am when the train kept halting at the Ahmednagar outer signal.
Sampa Tapa Sinha and her daughter, who hail from Chattisgarh, sustained injuries to their hands when two to three robbers climbed up on the side of the train and tried to grab their bags. The women tried to hold on to their belongings. Met with resistance, the robbers brandished choppers and began to indiscriminately slash the hands of the women.
Government Railway Police (GRP) commissioner Madhukar Pandey said in a text message: “Both the ladies have been admitted at Pyramid Hospital in Daund and are now stable. Their bag has been recovered, but their PAN card, Aadhar card and cellphone, as well as Rs 350 in cash has been stolen. Investigation is on.”
GRP officials from Mumbai, who have been monitoring the case said that the Daund-Ahmednagar-Pune stretch had become a new hub for robberies in trains. “This stretch has become increasingly dangerous in the past three years, but robberies have rarely escalated to this point,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
The incident has been registered at the Pune railway station GRP and officials are trying to trace the gang of robbers through their sources. “This kind of violence in trains is usually seen in parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and it is surprising that it has reached here,” added the official. Railways has been asking passengers to shut the windows of the trains during late night and early morning hours, so as to avoid similar incidents.
