Three people including a woman died in two separate accidents in Sion.

Three people including a woman died in two separate accidents in Sion. In the first incident, which occurred on Thursday, a woman died after being hit by a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) dumper while Friday morning saw two youngsters succumbing to injuries after being hit by a bus.

According to investigators, on Thursday morning at about 10.15 am, a 45-year-old woman identified as Sanjana Pandit was hit by a clean-up dumper while she was crossing the road. “The woman, who stays in Chembur had come to Sion for some work and she was crossing the road near Sion Hospital when she was hit by a dumper. She was near the Sion Hospital signal when the incident occurred,” said an officer from Sion police station. He added that the dumper with vehicle number MH-46-AR-0862 was headed towards the South-bound BA road.

“The driver fled after hitting the pedestrian. He left the keys in the ignition and escaped before passersby could reach him,” the officer said. He was later traced and arrested.

In another incident, two youngsters travelling on a motorbike lost control of the vehicle after the driver of a four-wheeler opened the door towards oncoming traffic. The two deceased were identified as Kushal Yadav (20) and Shravan Borana (20). “At about 9 am, Yadav and Borana were travelling on their two-wheeler with Yadav at the wheel and Borana riding pillion. When they reached road no 29 near Champaklal Estate building, the driver of a stationery Honda City car opened the right side door of his car,” said a senior officer of Sion police station.

As the door was opened towards the oncoming traffic, Yadav, who was coming in the same direction, hit it and both youngsters fell on the road. “When they fell, a school bus driver who was driving in a rash manner hit their bike, injuring them grievously. They were rushed to a hospital, but were declared dead before admission,” the officer added.
