A day after BJP MP Kirit Somaiya alleged a large-scale scam in the water supply by tanker mafias, city BJP chief Ashish Shelar on Thursday threatened to file a criminal case if the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation does not take measures to arrest the malpractices.
Mr Shelar said the civic body, in the budget session of the state legislature, admitted that 27 per cent of the 3,750 million litres daily water supply to Mumbai is unaccounted, as it goes waste due to various factors like leakage, pilferage etc. BMC chief Ajoy Mehta has assured a probe in this matter. “If the civic body does not take necessary measures within a month, we will file a criminal case,” said Mr Shelar.
