According to officials, Shakir Gulam Dafedar (39) an Ola cab driver, had dropped off a passenger and parked his car on the Thane-Belapur road near MIDC-Turbhe area. He was standing outside the car waiting for another passenger when Dafedar saw a motorcycle-borne duo coming towards him and growing suspicious, tried to get into the car. But the accused reached the scene before he could do so and pulled him out of the car and at knifepoint, robbed his mobile phone and also stole some of his money. They also stopped another taxi coming from the opposite direction and robbed the driver and two passengers of that car.
The accused have been identified as Navi Mumbai residents Kasim Khan (24) and Satish Korchikune (28). Both had been externed from Mumbai. API Ulhas Kadam said, “The accused robbed passengers from the other cabs too. They were all threatened by the accused. When two police officers saw them go past them in a hurry, they found it suspicious and nabbed them after a successful chase. The accused duo was fleeing on a Pulsar and our officers gave them a tough chase despite the robbers putting impediments in their path.”
According to the police, the accused have 15 cases against them in Dharavi, eight cases in Pune, four in Navi Mumbai and many others in other parts of Maharashtra.
