Vinod Tawde gives in, teachers withdraw agitation
The Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers’ Organisation (MSFJCTO) has withdrawn its agitation of assessing one answer sheet per day of the ongoing HSC exams.
The Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers’ Organisation (MSFJCTO) has withdrawn its agitation of assessing one answer sheet per day of the ongoing HSC exams. According to officials of the organisation, the decision was taken after education minister Vinod Tawde agreed to fulfill most of their demands and issue orders regarding it within a few days. The meeting took place earlier last week and the organisation has said all 60,000 teachers who were part of the agitation will start assessment work in full swing to ensure the HSC results are declared on time.
Anil Deshmukh, general secretary of the MSFJCTO, said that for a long time the government had been delaying a decision on their demands; hence they were forced to start the no cooperation agitation. “Under the agitation we had decided to assess only one answer sheet a day which would imply that the assessment work would go on a for a long time. A large number of teachers from junior colleges across the state had participated and assessment work was progressing at a slow pace owing to the agitation,” said Mr Deshmukh.
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) then petitioned the government to look into the issue on an urgent basis following which Mr Tawde decided to meet the teachers’ representatives. The meeting held at Mantralaya dwelt on the various issues and demands of the teachers after which Mr Tawde assured the teachers of fulfilling most of the demands.
The demands included conducting HSC exams for science and maths as per the old pattern, making information technology subject aided and teachers receiving salaries accordingly, sanctioning salaries of teachers pending since 2007, separating administration of junior colleges from schools and degree colleges, and calling for an external examiner for HSC practical exams.
“Mr Tawde has agreed to most of our demands and said an order to the effect would be issued soon. They will start assessing answer papers and will ensure that the backlog that had accrued owing to the agitation is cleared so that the results can be prepared and declared on time,” said Mr Deshmukh.
