Vice-Admiral Girish Luthra takes charge as flag officer

Vice-Admiral Girish Luthra took over the flag officer commanding-in-chief post on Monday from Vice-Admiral Sunil Lanba. Vice-Admiral Lanba is now going to assume the post of chief of naval staff in Delhi on Tuesday as the current CNS Robin Kumar Dhowan is set to retire on May 31.

Vice-Admiral Luthra on Sunday gave the charge of southern command to Vice-Admiral A.R. Karve. On the occasion, a ceremonial parade was held at INS Shikra. During the event, Vice-Admiral Lanba received a send off with the traditional ‘pulling out’ ceremony by the officials of Indian Navy.

After inspecting the guard of honour, Vice-Admiral Lanba addressed the naval personnel and told them that no negligence would be accepted during their service. Furthermore, he asked Navy officials to work in a coordinated manner to ensure that the ships, submarines and aircraft are well maintained.

The Vice-Admiral explained that coastal security is a big security concern. “I have no doubt that fire power from units of fleet, flotillas and squadrons can be delivered appropriately should the need arise,” he said.
