The Vanrai police of Goregaon on Wednesday detained a pavement dweller for allegedly pelting stones at a number of vehicles on the Western Express Highway. According to police officers, a couple of motorists sustained injuries in the incident.
Officials have said they suspect that the accused is a mentally unstable person. The accused has informed the officials that he started flinging stones after not finding anything to eat, as he was hungry.
The incident occurred at about 2 am, on Wednesday, when the accused suddenly started pelting stones at vehicles, due to which the windscreens and windowpanes of several automobiles got damaged, and a few motorists got injured. They sought medical aid.
The police was informed by a passer-by about the incident and police personnel detained the culprit immediately.
The accused, identified as Ramchandra, did not divulge anything to the police about his residence and family.
Speaking about Ramchandra, a senior police official commented, “He begs for a living. We have sent him to a beggars’ home.” None of the motorists have pressed charges against him.
