Unknown man shoots auto driver in Malad
An auto driver was shot at by an unknown assailant in Malad around 9 pm Friday. The victim, Turkeshwar Singh, is in Shatabdi Hospital and his condition is stable. The assailant, after reaching an under-construction site, fired a round at Mr Singh, hitting him in the stomach. After the shooting, the assailant dropped an envelope containing an extortion letter for the builder. A police source said the letter demanded '10 lakh as extortion money from the builder.
More shockingly, the letter mentioned it was from Uday Pathak, a local goon who is already in jail and facing charges of murdering four people in Kurar. Kurar police station officials suspect the letter was written by some relative of Mr Pathak with the intent of creating fear in the area, given that many SRA projects are coming up in the vicinity.
A senior official from Kurar police station told The Asian Age, “The developer had received extortion calls too.” Investigation in the matter is underway.
