Three women police constables are likely to be suspended after a 25-year-old woman undertrial fled the JJ Hospital premises Friday morning along with her three-year-old daughter, who was undergoing treatment there.

The woman had been housed at Byculla jail following her arrest in a kidnapping case by the Shivaji Nagar police.

According to officials, the accused has been identified as Zubaida Khatun.

On Friday morning, the three women police constables from the local arms department took Khatun and her three-year-old daughter, who stays with her in the jail, to the JJ Hospital for treatment of chicken pox. Khatun went to the doctor’s cabin and later, she managed to dodge the police women and fled along with her daughter.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Sharma said, “Khatun was lodged in the Byculla woman’s prison since 2012 in a kidnapping case. After she fled the JJ Hospital premises, a case was registered at the JJ Marg police station under Section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the Indian Penal Code.”
