A 55-year-old Kamgar Hospital clerk committed suicide on Thursday evening at Vashi creek pool because he was unable to finance the medical treatment of his son, who subsequently died.
The deceased has been identified as Ashok Bait, a resident of Navi Mumbai and working as a clerk in Kamgar Hospital for the last 15 years. According to Vashi police officials on Thursday, he left home around 6 pm. He told his younger daughter that he was going out to buy milk. Around 7.30 pm he called his daughter and told her that he was committing suicide.
“He had tried to commit suicide two times before this year following the death of his 35-year-old son Nimish Bait. He was depressed as he could not manage to save money for his treatment, who later died. His daughter told us that previously he had tried to jump off from the building terrace, and so she immediately went up in search of him on receiving her father’s call. However, Ashok was at the Vashi Creek Bridge and jumped off from there Thursday night. ”
The police said around 9 pm his daughter filed a complaint at the Nerul police station. On Saturday morning, the Vashi police got a call regarding a dead body. “She identified the body. We have registered an accidental death report and handed over the body to the family,” said an official.
