Uddhav Thackeray hails Himachal Pradesh govt over Pak match

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday hailed the Himachal Pradesh’s Congress government’s decision not to host Pakistan matches at Dharamshala.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday hailed the Himachal Pradesh’s Congress government’s decision not to host Pakistan matches at Dharamshala.

He said that more people have started sharing the Shiv Sena’s stand and Pakistan would learn a lesson when the whole of India decided not to have any kind of relationship with the neighbouring country until it stops harbouring terrorists, who are attacking India.

Speaking on the sidelines of a fire brigade function at Vikhroli, Mr Thackeray said, “Till the time the whole of India says in one voice that we should have no relationship with Pakistan till they stop terrorist activities against our country, Pakistan will not stop its anti-India activities. Everyone needs to think whether they are doing a disservice to the nation while playing vote-bank politics.”

Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh had earlier voiced his concern over the Indo-Pak match, saying that the state government cannot ensure security of players and that welcoming Pakistani players on Indian soil would be disrespectful to the martyred soldiers.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced Eden Gardens as the new venue for the much-awaited India-Pakistan match which was previously scheduled to be held at Dharamshala.

Reacting to the shifting of the match to Kolkata, the Sena president said it was unfortunate that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had agreed to host the match against Pakistan. “But there is one satisfaction that leaders of other parties and even chief ministers have started agreeing with Sena’s stand,” Mr Thackeray said.
