In U-turn, Mhada offers homes still being constructed

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) Mumbai Board will offer 582 under-construction homes out of the total 972 units, a U-turn from its initial claims that it would not offer

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) Mumbai Board will offer 582 under-construction homes out of the total 972 units, a U-turn from its initial claims that it would not offer flats in buildings that have not received the Occupation Certificate (OC) to avoid any delay in possession. These under-constructions homes will take at least two years for possession.

The lottery for the city has been delayed this year due to the Mhada introducing new income slabs for all categories, including Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG), Middle Income Group (MIG) and the Higher Income Group (HIG).

The registrations for the Mumbai Board lottery can be done online and the same will start from June 24 and will be end on July 25. The winners of the Mhada lottery will be declared on August 10, 2016.

“The lottery will have around 135 HIG units, 228 MIG units, 416 LIG units and 190 EWS units,” said a Mhada official.

“The price for the purchase is between '8 lakh minimum to Rs 80 lakh maximum. Around 45 per cent of the units available this year are in old buildings for which we already have the OC,” the official added.

“Rest of the buildings are under construction. Most of the units are in old buildings as the Mhada has no new flats to offer for the lottery in city. This year we have around 972 homes. This number will further come down next year due to land scarcity,” the official further said.

The units available are in Dahisar, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Goregaon, Andheri, Powai, Mulund, Mankhurd, Sion, Chembur.
