The Board of Examination of the University of Mumbai has given the go ahead for the results of nearly 4,000 students who had appeared for the TYBA semester V repeater exam in March/April 2015 to be recalled and amended. The decision was taken in the meeting of the ad-hoc BoE on Thursday where it was decided to amend the results in three days and issue fresh marksheets in six days. Meanwhile, the BoE has also asked the university to amend the erroneous marksheets of LLM students that were uploaded with wrong marks as a result of which many passed students had failed.

Speaking about the decision by the ad hoc BoE, Deepak Wasave, in-charge controller of examination, MU, said that the results of 4,609 TYBA students would undergo amendment. “While the amended results will have a minor effect on the grades it could be negative for 271 students who just got through with an ‘E’ Grade,” said Wasave. While 1,551 students who appeared for the repeater exam failed and will not be affected by the amendment, the prospects of the remaining 3,058 will be affected.

According to him, most subjects are allotted four credits but the sixth and optional subjects have either 3.5 or 4 credits. A large number of students who appeared for the repeater exams were to be given credits out of 3.5 but were wrongly given credits out of 4. The reduction would affect the overall cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of borderline pass students and could become negative. The grades of the others could also see a drop as a result of this.

Meanwhile sources said that the BoE also asked the CoE to amend the marks of second year LLM students as the erroneous scores showed passed students failed and vice versa.

“The decision was taken in a previous meeting by the BoE last week after it came to light that the scores were wrong. Changes will be made and marksheets will be issued thereafter,” said the source.
