Two women manhandled and even bit police officials at Arnala police station in Virar on Monday night.

Two women manhandled and even bit police officials at Arnala police station in Virar on Monday night. Later, the two sisters were arrested and produced in court, which remanded them to police custody till March 5.

Earlier on Monday, a Virar woman, along with her sister, visited the Arnala Police Station to lodge a complaint. The duo informed police officials that an unknown person had attempted to rape one of them. As per the complainant’s narration, the incident had occurred in Virar, which comes under the jurisdiction of Virar police station, so, officials started preparing documents to transfer the case there.

No sooner, the women created a ruckus at the police station, saying that the officials were not lodging the FIR in the way that they wanted. An official from Arnala police station on condition of anonymity told The Asian Age that the women wanted to register a case of rape however, officials lodged a case of attempt to rape as no medical examination of the women had been conducted. Besides, the women themselves had told officials that an unknown person had tried to rape one of them so there was no question of registering a case of rape.

Unable to get the police to register a case of rape, the women started screaming at the officials and questioned them as to why the FIR was registered in Marathi and not English as they could not read Marathi.

At some point, a few women police officials tried to intervene to calm down the women but the latter manhandled them and even tried to bite them.

A senior official from Arnala Police Station told this newspaper that both women have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for harassing government servants and stopping them from working, attacking a government servant, and manhandling police officials.
