The Kandivali police has arrested two persons who allegedly looted a delivery boy and robbed him of valuables and cash worth around Rs 60,000. One of those arrested is an accused in a murder case now out on bail.
According to police sources, the two accused Suraj Dubey alias Bunty (29), the alleged mastermind, and Shailesh Chandra Nagvanshi (25) first created an account on online shopping site Flipkart.com and placed an order for a high-end camera and gave a fake address. They also gave a mobile number, which they secured after stealing the mobile phone from an ATM guard, the police said.
Ashok Babu Bengali (22), the delivery boy, was supposed to deliver a Sony camera worth Rs 49,445 to Pratim Jignesh Shah in Balaji Enclave, Lokhandwala area of Kandivali on December 18. However, Bengali realised when he reached the location that the address was wrong.
Therefore he called Shah on the given number and Shah informed him that he was waiting for him near the bus stop. When Bengali reached the spot, two boys in their mid-twenties threatened him at gunpoint and snatched the camera as well as Rs 10,000 in cash, which Bengali was carrying, and fled the scene.
A case was later registered with the Samta Nagar police station. Confirming this, senior inspector of Samta Nagar police station Dilip Yadav said, “When we tracked the IP address from where the order was placed, we reached a cyber café and from there we got the clue about Shailesh Chandra Nagvanshi, who posed as Shah and placed the order. On December 22 we arrested him and he tipped us off about the mastermind of the crime, Dubey. We arrested him on December 24 and at the time of arrest he was carrying the revolver that was used by him to threaten Bengali and two live bullets.”
The police has booked the duo under Sections 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 418 (Cheating with knowledge that wrongful loss may ensue to person), 397 (Robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
Commenting on the case, DCP of zone 12, M. Ramkumar said, “Dubey has a case of murder registered against him in Nerul, and at the time of looting Bengali he was out on bail.”
