Two, including minor, held for stealing two-wheelers

The Anti Chain Snatching Unit (ACSU) of the Bhiwandi Crime Branch has arrested two people, including a minor, for allegedly stealing two-wheelers.

The Anti Chain Snatching Unit (ACSU) of the Bhiwandi Crime Branch has arrested two people, including a minor, for allegedly stealing two-wheelers. The police has seized around 13 bikes of the same company from the duo.

The incident came to light after the Bhiwandi police started receiving many complaints about bike thefts from crowded market areas. After receiving a tip, that someone was coming to sell a two-wheeler in the Shandar market area, the police decided to investigate. The officers led by DCP Chandrakant Joshi (Zone 2) and PI Vithhal Chintaman, Vijay Bhalerao and Vilas Patil of the Anti Chain Snatching Unit of Bhiwandi laid a trap and questioned the seller, a 17-year-old.

“At first he tried to evade our questions regarding who he had bought it from, which year and the papers of the two-wheeler, but later he told us he had stolen the bike from near the Indira Gandhi hospital in Bhiwandi,” said an officer.

Further investigation revealed that the minor was part of a two-member gang that had been responsible for the theft of around 20 bikes from various areas like Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane and Vasai. The officer said the minor was the brain behind the operation and was helped by the second accused Chetan Ambat (21), a resident of Palghar.

The police said the duo has offences registered against them in around eight police stations. Interestingly, all the 13 bikes recovered from the duo are of the same make — Honda Unicorn.
