The Kalachowkie police on Sunday arrested two men in connection with the torching of motorbikes in the parking lot of Vighnaharta society recently. In the March 21 incident, 42 two-wheelers, 2 cars and a few bicycles were completely charred.
The accused are identified as Mahindra Ghadi and Mayur Ghadgiwar, residents of a nearby society. They told the police that they decided to torch the bikes as they were not getting permission to park their cars in that parking lot.
The police found that a few days before the incident, a resident of Vighnaharta society had fought with Ghadi over the parking issue. In retaliation, Ghadi and Ghadgiwar decided to burn a bike in the society. Ghadi torched a bike and the duo fled when it seemed as if someone was approaching the parking lot. The fire spread all over the parking lot because of the airflow, the police said.
The incident took place between 5 am and 6 am on March 21. The blaze was brought under control by the fire brigade between 6 am to 7 am. However, by then 42 two-wheelers, two four-wheelers and a few bicycles which were parked near Vighnaharta society were charred in the fire. Apart from these vehicles other vehicles that were parked outside the building were also damaged.
