Two girls — one mentally disabled and the other a 14-year-old minor — were raped in the Vasai-Virar area in the last 24 hours. The police has detained a minor boy in connection with one rape while another accused is absconding and statements are being taken from locals to identify him.
Police officials said the first incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Valiv police in Vasai. The mentally disabled girl would go to a nearby hand pump to fill water in her pot every day at 10pm.
About five months ago, when the girl was returning home, a minor local boy stopped her, took her to an isolated area, and raped her. He threatened her into silence and since then, had been raping her every day on her way back.
On Thursday, the victim’s mother noticed an injury mark on her and inquired about the same to which, the girl revealed the entire sordid story.
The family immediately filed a complaint following which, police detained the accused. A senior official said that the accused had been booked under relevant sections of the IPC for rape, assault and threatening.
In the second incident, a 14-year-old was raped while visiting the toilet outside her chawl in Virar on Wednesday night.
The police has registered a case against one unknown person under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The victim was sent for medical examination and her reports are yet to come.
