The incident occurred at around 8 pm on Wednesday. A contractor was carrying on work at the station. They were reconstructing the wall of Dockyard station. In the absence of precautionary measures, while breaking the old wall, a part of it collapsed on the other side. A man and woman were going from side to side when the wall collapsed on them. Police reached the spot immediately and removed the two victims from the debris, after which they were taken to J.J. Hospital, only to be declared dead on arrival.
“The wall is towards CST end, which collapsed suddenly when workers tried to break it. The wall is 6 to 7 feet high. Of the two victims, the man has been identified as Ganesh Jambre (45) while no one has come forward from the side of the woman identified as Nasrin Ibrahim (30),” said senior PI, Byculla police station, Avinash Shingte.
The construction was going on for the 12-yard cars project of Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation. They were extending and renovating the ticket office near Dockyard station.
