The bodies were recovered from Morekar wadi-Dhanukarwadi near the cremation ground behind Thakur International School at about 6 pm on Saturday.

The police said it appeared from the state of the bodies that not much time had elapsed since the death of the couple and is suspecting a case of double murder.

While the police has failed to establish the identities of the persons who had died, officials said it appeared the couple was between 40 and 45 years. The police said no proof of identity could be found on the bodies.

Till late evening Saturday, the police was busy with the punchnama and then sent the bodies for autopsy. Police teams have started inquiring in the area to get hold of some clue in the case.

According to police officials, a local resident noticed the two cardboard boxes lying in the nullah and, finding them suspicious, informed the police control room. Later, the Kandivali police reached the spot and opened the boxes.

According to sources, in one box a male body was kept with its hands and legs tied with a rope, and in another box, a female body was kept also with the legs and hands tied together.

“The bodies appear fresh and as of now we are assuming they died this morning. It appears the man and woman were between 40 and 45 years of age,” said a police official.
