The Ghatkopar police has arrested two auto rickshaw drivers for allegedly beating up a passenger after he got into a scuffle with one of them. According to the police, the fight initially broke out between a passenger and an auto driver but soon led to four or five auto drivers beating up the passenger.
When a crowd gathered, most of them commuters, they got enraged that a passenger was getting beaten up and soon damaged the parked autos.
According to the Ghatkopar police, the incident occurred around 10.30 pm on Tuesday night right outside the Ghatkopar railway station.
“A passenger identified as Mallesh Gowda (29) boarded an auto rickshaw from outside Vidyavihar station for Ghatkopar station. After getting off, there was an argument between the driver and Gowda about the fare reflected in the meter. While this argument ensued, Gowda allegedly pushed the auto rickshaw driver, which led to the auto driver hitting him,” said V.B. Patil, senior police inspector, Ghatkopar police station.
A source said, “Most of the parked autos outside the station are not willing to travel short distances. Even that night, the crowd thought that an auto driver had refused a fare and started beating them up in anger.”
