There was some respite for parents in Naya Nagar area of Nagpada Thursday morning after Nagpada police officials informed them that two of the three missing children had been traced to Varanasi.

A team comprising police officials and parents left for Varanasi from Mumbai to bring the children back.

The police said according to leads, a woman was responsible for the abduction of the children, and the police was still looking for her. In the last three months, at least 305 girls have gone missing from Mumbai city. Officials said early Thursday morning they got a call from a police constable from Varanasi informing them about two girls Tarannum Rasul (6), Kulsum Zubair (6) who had been missing from the Naya Nagar for the past few days. The police immediately informed the parents and sent a team to bring the children back.

Currently, the children are under the care of an NGO called Asmita Child Care and the Varanasi police. “Initially, when the Varanasi police and NGO people asked the girls how they reached Varanasi, they said that an “aunty” had brought them to the city. The “aunty” allegedly met them near their house where they were playing and asked them to go with her. She told them she would take them to a circus. They then took a train and reached Varanasi. The woman reportedly left the girls at a Varanasi bus stop and took the boy with her.”

On Sunday, three minors — two six-year-old girls and a four-year-old boy went missing while playing below their apartment block. The two girls along with the boy, identified as Gulfam Rasul (4), are all residents of Naya Nagar area in Nagpada. The children had gone missing since Sunday evening.
