The Tulinj police of Nallasopara is on the lookout for two unknown accused who had cheated a local resident after promising to provide him a job in customs and excise.
The accused met the complainant, Pyarelal Kanojia, three years ago, when the latter was searching for employment. The accused allegedly duped Kanojia, taking almost Rs 7 lakh from him from 2013 to till date.
After realising that he was cheated, Kanojia approached the police on Saturday. We are searching for the accused, said a police officer.
According to the police, after taking Kanojia’s money, the duo failed to keep him informed about the job. However, when Kanojia started insisting about the job, the accused gave him customs-related documents, which Kanojia learnt were fake after he went to verify them. Later, when he started asking for a refund, the accused started avoiding him, which led Kanojia to realise that he was cheated. The Tulinj police registered a case under sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating, common intention and forgery of valuable security. Officials also suspect that chances are these accused had pulled off similar crimes in the past. Sources said the process of identifying the accused is on.
