Dr Bhamre was speaking after visiting the family of Mr Chavan in Borvihir village of Dhule on Sunday.
Dr Bhamre interacted with Mr Chavan’s brother, Bhushan, his grandparents and other family members. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were also present during the meeting.
Dr Bhamre said that Mr Chavan had inadvertently crossed the Line of Control (LoC).
“Due to this incident, the entire nation was worried. The Indian government considers each soldier’s life priceless. Hence a high-level meeting was held and proper steps are being taken,” he said.
The minister of state also acknowledged that Mr Chavan’s grandmother Leelatai Chhinda Chavan-Patil died of a heart attack on Thursday after hearing the news of his capture.
He assured the family that the nation was behind Mr Chavan and he would be brought back safely.
Mr Chavan belongs to the armoured regiment and is an orphan who was brought up by his grandparents. His grandfather is a former government servant. His brother Chandu is also a soldier and they have a sister, who is married.
