A 30-year-old truck driver died on the spot, after his truck turned turtle on NH-8 near the Vaghoba ghat of Manor area in Palghar. The truck driver has been identified as Mumtaj Ali, a resident of Palghar. According to police officials, he died because he fell under the truck after it overturned, which lead to a fatal head injury.
The incident took place around 5.30 am on Sunday. According to police sources, a preliminary investigation has revealed that Ali had lost control of the truck. A police official said the truck was badly damaged in the accident. The police has registered a case in the matter.
In a similar incident, another tanker overturned on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway around 7.30 am. According to police officials, the tanker was carrying thinner used to prepare colours. The driver lost control of the vehicle, following which the thinner then spilled on the road. According to a police official, the driver successfully managed to come out of the tanker, but traffic was closed for almost an hour to avert accidents on the slippery surface.
In a third incident in Dahisar area, a 48-year-old woman, Shashikala Pandey ,died after she was knocked down by an ambulance. The incident occurred near the Dahisar railway station at about 3 pm on Sunday. Following the mishap, her body was sent to Shatabdi Hospital for post-mortem. A case would be registered by Sunday night, police sources said.
