The parents of actor Pratyusha Banerjee have written a letter to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, minister of state for home Ranjit Patil, police commissioner Datta Padsalgikar and joint commissioner Deven Bharti, demanding that the investigation in her suicide case be transferred to the Mumbai crime branch. The Bangur Nagar police of North Mumbai is investigating the case, but Pratyusha’s parents allege that the police was letting the accused — the actor’s boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh — destroy evidence. They also claimed that Singh had been threatening witnesses and them. They also referred to her death as a murder. “The death of my daughter is being portrayed as a suicide due to depression, which is a false notion,” the letter read.

Pratyusha’s parents, in the letter, also claimed that since the day they recorded their statements in the police station, they had been telling officials that Pratyusha’s death was more than a suicide but all their complaints were falling on deaf ears.

According to the letter, Pratyusha had fallen prey to Singh. “He cheated my daughter and is solely responsible for her death,” it read.

Commenting on the letter, Shankar Banerjee, Pratyusha’s father, told The Asian Age, “There are many important clues that prove Pratyusha’s death was not a simple suicide due to depression. Every circumstance says Singh is the only person behind her death.” When approached for a comment, Mr Bharti said, “As of now we have not received any letter.”
