Three children mangled in tractor rotor
Three children including a toddler, were mangled when a driver under the influence of alcohol ran them over in a tractor fitted with a rotor in Amod village of Jalgaon tehsil-district on Thursday. The driver, who fled the scene after the accident, was arrested late Thursday night.
Sunil alias Pintu Bheemsingh Barela was working in the fields with the rotor fitted to the tractor. However, he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and dashed against a neem tree in the fields, police sources said.
The three children Fundabai Raju Barela (7), Chhoti Batya Barela (1) and Mukesh Batya Barela (5) who were playing under the tree got pulled into the rotor blades and were mangled to death. Two others, Kailash Narsingh Barela (22) and Suham Kahiram Barela (3) were injured. The rotor fitted to the tractor is used to break up the soil chunks that are left after ploughing.
The Barelas are labourers working on the Bhokar-Bhadli road project. They belong to the Pavra community and have migrated for work. The deceased children’s parents were working while the children were playing under a tree next to the road. Police has registered cases and is investigating the matter.
