Three of Bol Bachchan gang held

The DB Marg police of south Mumbai on Friday night arrested three members of the infamous ‘Bol Bachchan’ gang, recovering nearly 30 grams of gold from them.

The DB Marg police of south Mumbai on Friday night arrested three members of the infamous ‘Bol Bachchan’ gang, recovering nearly 30 grams of gold from them.

Officials said each of the three arrested accused has at least 20 cases registered against him in various police stations across the city.

In the last week of April, a complaint was registered against the trio at DB Marg police station for cheating people by posing as police officers.

Later on May 5, a similar case was lodged at Dongri police station, after which police started an awareness campaign in the area.

Officials said members of the gang had three main tactics. One of them would include gang members accosting a stranger and engaging in a confusing conversation, during which a member would steal their valuables. They would also pose as police officers or good samaritans and therefore win the confidence of their victims before making away with their purses, cash, jewellery and other valuables.

Sources informed The Asian Age that officials are now questioning the trio in connection with rising cases of persons posing as police officers in the city.

Meanwhile, sources have refused to give names of the accused, saying that their investigation was on and they were trying to find out the total number of crimes committed by them as well as trace other members of the gang.

Recently, a middle-aged woman registered a case at DB Marg police station claiming she had been hypnotised by three men who approached her posing as long lost friends and subsequently robbed her of 30 grams of ornaments. The trio got the woman talking, later stealing the gold she was wearing on her person.
