The Thane crime branch unit one officers in a major crackdown conducted raids on 38 different godowns based in Shil-Daighar area and seized around 12129.381 metric tonnes pulses worth Rs112 crore. The police has registered a case against three warehouse owners. According to the police, the pulses might have been brought imported for distribution in Maharashtra.
The police claimed that the raid and seizure of pulses during raid would result in decline in the prices of pulses in the market. The raid was conducted at 38 different godowns in and across the Mumbra-Taloja road on Tuesday night. “Based on a tip-off, our crime branch team along with the rationing officers team from Thane collector office conducted the raid on Tuesday night and seized sacks from around 38 godowns, where we found different types of pulses stored in huge quantity,” said Parambir Singh, commissioner of police, Thane.
“We suspect that the essential commodities were brought from foreign countries and were brought into Maharashtra from the Nhava-Sheva port. We are investigating the case further to get more details about the main sellers and buyers, ” said Nitin Thakre, senior police inspector, Thane crime branch, Unit 1, who received the tip-off of the store material and with the help of the rationing officer conducted the raid.
During preliminary investigation, the police found that the commodities were kept in different godowns of Karam Warehouse Private Limited situated at old Mumbra Taloja road, Dahisar Mori, Pimpri, Thane. They had stored around 9672.41 metric tonnes worth Rs 90,23,86,700. Another one was M. Garg Warehouse in Dahisar, Mumbra, Panvel which had stored around 1442.725 metric tonnes pulses worth Rs10,09,10,250 and Shri Om Warehouse, which had stored around 1014.246 metric tonnes worth Rs 11,73,61,120,” said a police official.
“We have seized a total of 12129.381 metric tonnes of pulses, including tur dal and other pulses, which were stored in the different godowns and have registered a case against the three warehouse owners who owned them. Around three cases have been registered at Shil-Daighar police station under the section of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955,” said Parag Manare, DCP, Thane crime branch.
