Thane murder: Husnain Warerkar planned murder 20 days ago
Husnain Warerkar, who killed himself after butchering his family members, had planned to kill his family 20 days ago.

Husnain Warerkar, who killed himself after butchering his family members, had planned to kill his family 20 days ago. He took this decision after he found out his family knew that he had raped his mentally-challenged sister. The police said that they have taken the statement of Husnain’s other sister, Subia, who survived the murder attempt, and are now verifying it.
Subia said that two years ago, her brother completely changed after quitting his job and was frustrated. Once he had a bitter argument with his father over money. He then started arguing with his mother and told her that they had wasted all their money in getting their three daughters married and kept nothing for him. At that point, Husnain’s father decided to give him money by selling their land. They gave him Rs 30 lakh. Husnain also took Rs 15 lakh each from two of his maternal aunts and Rs 19.25 lakh from his mother who sold all her ornaments. Further, he took Rs 25 lakh from Subia. “I pawned my jewellery and gave Husnain the money as I thought he needed it for the treatment of my elder sister, Batul Warerkar, who is mentally ill. Batul was very close to me. But Husnain did not like her because of her behaviour but would handle all her treatment expenses,” she said.
Subia further said that later she learnt that Husnain would sexually assault Batul. “I was at my maternal home during my delivery, so whenever my child had to be taken for vaccination, I went to my brother’s place. In January, I was at home in Kasarwadwali and Batul came up crying to me and said, ‘Bhaijan ne ganda ganda kia mere saath ‘(Husnain molested me). I was shocked and asked her so many questions that she showed me the injuries on her private parts and other parts. I then told my mother about it but she just scolded Batul,” said Subia.
On February 7, the three sisters met during a family wedding when Subia told the others about what Husnain did to Batul. According to Subia, Husnain overheard them and decided to kill them because they knew the truth and would reveal it to the world. On the day of the gruesome murder, Subia was not ready to attend the dawat called by Husnain as her in-laws were not well. “After February 7, Husnain called me two times, inviting me to the celebration, saying we hadn’t met each other for the past three months. But I refused to attend because of the poor health of my in-laws. On Saturday, Husnain paid me a visit at my marital home and tried to convince my husband and in-laws to allow me to attend the celebration. At around 8 pm, we left from Bhiwandi and I told him that I wanted to buy something for my sisters as all of them were coming. But he pointed to some bags and said he had taken care of all that.
“At most family get-togethers, we would chat and my father would play with all his grandsons and granddaughters and we would end up sleeping after 2 or 3 am. On Saturday however, we all slept immediately after dinner at around midnight. Maybe Husnain had added something to make us sleep to our food. When I woke up, he was about to kill my mother and sister. My mother was begging for her life but he killed her anyway. He caught me watching and came up towards me and slit my throat, pushing me near the passage of the room. He then killed my sister and again came towards me. At that point, I told him that Shabina was still alive. The moment his attention got diverted to Shabina, I pushed him and locked the door of the bedroom,” said Subia.
Officials said that Husnain later stepped out of the house and went towards the room where Subia had locked herself, threatening to kill her.
He realised that people would soon wake up so he returned home and hanged himself. Meanwhile, joint commissioner of Thane, Ashutosh Dhumbre, said: “We have found medicines and we got the names of two medical stores: one in Thane and the other in Pune. We have spoken to the Thane doctor who was treating Batul and our team has gone to Pune to find out who bought the medicine from Pune. We are still investigating the case. Verification of Subia’s statement is underway.
