Temperature to stay high: Meteorologists
Mumbaikars will have to wait longer for the scorching heat to abate, as the meteorology department hasn’t predicted any fall in the temperature.
The Regional Meteorological Centre, which is stationed at Santacruz observatory, on Monday recorded maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, which was 3 degrees Celsius above normal, with 41 per cent humidity.
Weathermen said that the rise in maximum temperature is due to the lack of sea breeze. On Monday, the maximum temperature recorded at Colaba was 31.9 degrees Celsius, which was 0.4 degrees Celsius above normal; while at Santa Cruz it was 36 degrees Celsius, which was 3 degree Celsius above normal.
The humidity level recorded at Colaba was 70 per cent while at Santacruz it was 41 per cent. “Due to lack of sea breeze and moisture, the temperature is this high and in the coming few days, it will remain the same,” said Ajay Kumar from IMD -Mumbai.
As per the prediction, the sky will remain clear with no sign of rainfall to provide relief from the heat.
Environmentalists have also blamed growing urbanisation for the high temperature. “The temperature is so high in the city because of congestion and traffic while in the rural areas it is lower,” said Rishi Aggarwal, a city-based environmentalist.
