With the supplementary exams for SSC and HSC to get underway soon, a teachers’ organisation has alleged that the board is yet to pay the assessment and moderation fees for work they had done for the exams held in March/April. The teachers have claimed that even though they ensured that the board managed to declare the results before time this year due to their efforts, such a treatment was unfair and many teachers were having second thoughts over undertaking the duty for the upcoming exams.
According to Rajesh Pandya of the Teachers Democratic Front (TDF), the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) conducted the SSC and HSC exams in March/April this year and assessment work started almost immediately.
“While the jobs of many teachers were under the scanner due to various reasons, they did not resort to delaying tactics and completed assessment of the papers as per the schedule issued by the board. In fact, moderation work which is done after assessment was also done without any delay, thus ensuring that the board was able to announce the HSC results on May 25 and SSC results on June 6 much earlier than it has done previously,” said Mr Pandya. Despite this however, the board has not yet paid the teachers their dues, he added.
The board pays Rs 4.25 per answer sheet of 80 marks and Rs 2.50 for a 40 marks answer paper for the SSC exams. It pays Rs 5 per answer sheet for the HSC exams.
Around 13,055 and 2,687 teachers from Mumbai undertook assessment and moderation work respectively for the SSC exams while 7,693 and 1,581 teachers did assessment and moderation work respectively for the HSC exams.
In the past, the board used to remit the payments to teachers on the day the results were declared but since last year it has started the online remittance system, due to which hundreds of teachers are yet to receive their dues.
“Under such circumstances teachers have aired their reluctance to undertake assessment and moderation duty for the supplementary exams for HSC that will get underway on July 9 and SSC July 18,” said Mr Pandya.
Mumbai divisional board chairman Dattatray Jagtap, however, assuaged the angst of the teachers and said, “The teachers will get their dues. As we have started remitting the payment through the online mode, nearly 50 per cent of the teachers have not submitted the IFSC code of their bank accounts and hence they have not received their dues. The board will ensure that the payments are made soon,” said Mr Jagtap.
