A 23-year-old teacher from a madrasa was arrested by the Trombay police on Tuesday for allegedly molesting two cousin sisters.
A 23-year-old teacher from a madrasa was arrested by the Trombay police on Tuesday for allegedly molesting two cousin sisters.
In their complaint, the parents of the victims aged 11 and nine years alleged that the madrasa teacher behaved inappropriately with the girls after school hours. They claimed he took the duo to one corner and touched them inappropriately. Soon after the complaint, the accused, one Jarar Ali Lal Muhammad from Mankhurd, was arrested. He has been teaching at the madrasa for the past few months.
A police official said, “The victims’ parents alleged Muhammad was molesting the girls for the past few weeks. Initially, the girls were unable to confide in their mothers. However, on Tuesday, they returned home crying and narrated the incident.” Police inspector Usha Babar of Trombay police station said, “The victims’ parents came to the police station on Tuesday after they came to know of the incident. The girls reiterated to us what had transpired and we registered a case against Muhammad. We are investigating whether he has molested other girls in the madrasa. We are also speaking to the senior authority of the madrasa.”
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Muhammad hails from Wazirganj in Uttar Pradesh and has been living in Mumbai for many years and teaching the girls for the past five to six months. We have booked him under relevant sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” said Ms Babar.
