Supriya Sule meets Chhagan Bhujbal in jail
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule met senior party leader and former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal at Arthur Road Jail on Saturday.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule met senior party leader and former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal at Arthur Road Jail on Saturday. The daughter of party chief Sharad Pawar met the incarcerated leader who has been given a 14-day judicial custody since Thursday by a special court of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Ms Sule, who tried to keep the meeting under wraps, refused to speak about her meeting with Bhujbal and simple responded to queries by the mediapersons with a “Happy Holi” greeting before leaving. NCP was alleged to not have come out in support of Bhujbal when he was arrested.
Bhujbal, who has been one of the mainstays of the party, was arrested on Monday, March 14 by the Enforcement Directorate, which is probing money laundering and other cases against him. After the arrest, he was produced before a special court, which sent him to judicial custody at Arthur Road central jail where his nephew Sameer Bhujbal has been lodged since his arrest on February 1 in similar and related cases.
Bhujbal, accused of siphoning off money in the construction of Maharashtra Sadan — the government guesthouse in New Delhi and Kalina (Mumbai) land grabbing cases — has, however, pleaded innocence in both cases. However, the ED, which had sought seven more days’ custody of Bhujbal, which was turned down by special court judge P.R. Bhavke, has said that it had found evidence of nearly '200 crore in cash that was generated in the Bhujbals’ name and it wanted to interrogate Bhujbal to find the source/mode of the cash from him. Judge Bhavke said that “sufficient ground was not made out for further remand”. The next hearing is slated for March 31.
