A month after the Bombay high court ordered razing of three floors of Sunita Building, which is located close to the Mumbai international airport, as its height was found to be above the permitted level, residents have written in to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) against ongoing demolition work.
The letter — sent to AAI’s vigilance officer, director of air safety and Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd — claims that the Santa Cruz-based Sunita Building does not pose any “obstacle in the flight path of aircraft” and, therefore, demolition should not happen.
Residents of Sunita Building, in their letter, have also said that as regards height clearance from AAI, the location of the plot in the map shown in the transitional surface and the plot location is in the approach surface at a distance of 686 metre from the beginning of runway 09 of Mumbai airport. But, the NOCAS (No Objection Certificate Application System) has given the distance as 725 metre.
On the basis of NOCAS calculation, the permitted height is 19.38 metre above sea level. The residents in their letter have stated that as the runway threshold has already been displaced, the building should not be considered an obstacle for the flight path. In the letter (to which this newspaper has access), the residents have claimed that there are many NOC cases in which the location of the site is shown in a different place than the actual site to obtain more height clearance from AAI.
