Subhash Desai defends link with sports complex
Industries minister and senior Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai who is associated with Prabodhankar Sports Complex in Goregaon defended that open space was not misused at the complex.
Industries minister and senior Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai who is associated with Prabodhankar Sports Complex in Goregaon defended that open space was not misused at the complex. He even urged the BMC officials to conduct an inspection and take action if any irregularities are discovered with the place.
“The Prabodhankar Sport Complex is open to all and no membership fee is being charged. Only the sportsmen have to pay a small amount for being trained. It is even given to schools’ sports on nominal rent. The ground has leased to the institute for an agreement period of 30 years,” Mr Desai said.
The Sena minister said authorities from the complex have written a letter to the BMC commissioner asking him to carry out an inspection at the place. “The BMC should hold inspections of the grounds and find out if any rule has been violated. The grounds should get one chance if its authorities have flouted any norm. The chief minister has not granted a stay to entire recreational ground-playground (RGPG) policy. There are 4,000 grounds in the city and the decision is applicable to only 200,” Mr Desai said.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had last week asked the BMC to review its controversial RGPG policy and also asked the civic body to take over more than 200 open plots, which have already been allotted to various organisations under the old scheme. The decision is seen as a huge setback for the ruling Shiv Sena, which was instrumental in getting the policy passed in the civic house with the help of BJP.
During the Sena-BJP rule in the state between 1995 to 1999, several open plots under the caretaker policy were allotted to the trusts affiliated to politicians like Borivali’s Kamla Vihar Sports Complex, Mandapeshwar Club, Prabodhankar Thackeray Complex, MIG Club, Bandra and Matoshree Club, Jogeshwari, Poisar Gymkhana and Dahisar Sports Foundation.
