Even after releasing four merit lists for admission to FYJC in the online admission procedure, the deputy director of education’s (DYDE) office has been stormed by hundreds of students and parents demanding the allocation of a seat in the college of their choice. While the DYDE has said they will not be able to oblige, education minister Vinod Tawde has said the online admission round will be extended by a further seven days to ensure that students are able to secure a seat.
According to parents, they have been visiting the office since Wednesday after the fourth list was announced on Tuesday. “We have the percentage as per the cut-off of the desired college but were still not allotted a seat there. Students with percentage lesser than ours have managed to get a seat in those colleges, hence we are demanding the allocation of a seat in the same college too,” said a student who has secured 88 per cent and has been seeking a seat in Hinduja College, where the cut-off has been 84.2 per cent.
An official from the DYDE office said, “Some students were allotted a seat in the college of their choice in the first and second list but they were opting for the betterment option and their seats were given to others. As the cut-offs in the college they applied to through the betterment option did not go down, they are demanding the seat that was allotted to them in the first and second list.”
