On Wednesday, two seminars were organised at Thadomal Shahani College and Lala Lajpat Rai College for creating awareness among students regarding India’s place in United Nations Security Council under the world’s largest mock UN conference. Around 1,400 students participated from various colleges at Thadomal Shahani College for the seminar. Food packets were served at around 12.30 pm to the students. After half an hour, five students started vomiting. Out of them, three students were taken to Hinduja Khar Hospital and two were taken to Holy Family Hospital. However, two students were discharged and three were still admitted but were declared out of danger. Similarly, in the same function organised at Lala Lajpat Rai College, several students fell sick and started vomiting after eating from the served food packets. Thirteen students were sent to Jaslok Hospital for diagnosis. Out them, four were admitted while remaining were discharged. As per information gathered, the food supplier for both programmes was the same. The Khar and Tardeo police stations are probing the matter.

Despite repeated calls to Hardik Jain, the spokesperson of the IIMUN, he couldn’t be contacted. The event was also held at some other institutions in the city. However, it is unclear where similar incidents happened there. IIMUN is conducting similar programmes across the country wherein 75,000 students will be attending it on Friday also.

Dhananjay Kulkarni, DCP, the Mumbai police spokesperson, said, “The police will be probing the matter.”
