Students’ organisations met University of Mumbai authorities on Tuesday and discussed various issues that were affecting students. The meeting was prompted after various students’ organisation accused the university authorities of reluctance to meet them despite allegations of dereliction of duty and callous attitude towards the problems related to students, teachers, non-teaching staff, security and academic and administrative flaws.
According to representatives of various students’ organisations that included Yuva Sena, MNVS, NSUI, Prahar, ABVP, SFI, Vidyarthi Bharati and 26 others, the meeting with the vice-chancellor of MU Dr Sanjay Deshmukh and registrar Dr M.A. Khan was intense.
“The main issue that was raised by most organisations was regarding the delay in declaration of exam results held in April/May 2016 and revaluation results of exams held in October/November 2015 and the recent exams,” said Santosh Gangurde, the vice-president of the students’ wing of MNVS.
Organisations also raised the question of appointment of a regular Controller of Examination (CoE) and demanded to know the progress being made regarding scholarships, freeships and the construction of hostels.
Another issue raised by the representatives was about the proposed fee increase that the university was planning to allow its affiliated colleges. The university accepted all the demands of the representatives and assured them that the 65 pending results and revaluation results would be announced within the next five days and also said that the appointment of a regular CoE would be taken up immediately.
“The university will conduct regular student darbars and meetings with student organisations once a month to resolve and address academic and administrative problems,” said Dr Khan.
