Even as the University of Mumbai has been trying to cope with various examination-related problems, a new one cropped up on Sunday after an unknown person claiming to be an examiner entered the examination house in the evening on the pretext of assessing answer papers.

According to an examination department official, during the routine round up when the security guards found him present in the Central Assessment room at 8.30 pm they confronted him and got him to leave.

They asked him to return the next day for further inquiry but he did not return, following which a police complaint was lodged at Bandra Kurla Complex police station for trespass.

Speaking about the incident, a senior university security official said that the person, who said his name was Prashant Navate, entered the examination house on Sunday evening.

As he frequented the examination house regularly, the guards allowed him in assuming that he was an examiner. “At around 8.30 pm when the guards saw the lights in the assessment room they confronted Navate. As he did not cooperate much the guards took down his details and asked him to return on Monday at 10 am. However he did not return and hence a police complaint was lodged against him in the BKC police station,” said Deepak Wasave, in-charge controller of examination.

While the university has asked the police to investigate the matter, former senate member Dr Supriya Karande has demanded to know how someone could access the examination house on a Sunday, which is a holiday.
