SRA seeks help from BMC in biometric survey of slums
The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has sought the help of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for ensuring the biometric survey to be carried out for SRA projects goes off smoothly in the city.
The Maharashtra government has decided to make the state slum-free by the year 2022. For this, the SRA will carry out the biometric survey of slums in Mumbai. With the help of this survey, the GIS data of all slums in the city will be prepared.
The GIS data will provide details of the number of slums in each area, as well as eligible and ineligible slums for the SRA scheme. This will weed out the issue of eligibility during the redevelopment of these slums and the SRA schemes can be implemented easily and speedily, said a civic official.
The SRA will carry out a topographical survey of slums to decide their boundaries. The survey is to be done using GPS/ETS technology, which will measure the boundaries of all slums and also the outer boundary of SRA schemes. This will ensure that these slums are not encroached in the future, he added.
In a letter written to the mayor, Aseem Gupta, SRA’s chief executive officer has sought co-operation from her in carrying out the survey in the city.
“As you know the ward level situation and obstacles in implementing the SRA scheme projects better, you are requested to help in this work,” said Mr Gupta in his letter.
