Speeding bus runs over brothers, 7-year-old killed

A speeding school bus ran over two brothers while crossing the road near their house at Laxmi Nagar, Ghatkopar, killing the younger of the two and injuring the elder one.

A speeding school bus ran over two brothers while crossing the road near their house at Laxmi Nagar, Ghatkopar, killing the younger of the two and injuring the elder one. The duo was returning from school. The older brother has a fracture in his leg.

The accident occurred at Lakshmi Nagar near Ghatkopar-Andheri Link Road on Thursday at about 1.40 pm. According to Pant Nagar police, the two brothers have been identified as Ashok Murgan (7) and Suresh Murgan (12). Both Ashok and Suresh were students of the BMC-run English school in Pant Nagar; Ashok was studying in Class One while Suresh was in Class Five.

An officer from Pant Nagar police station said, “While both the brothers were crossing the road of Laxmi Nagar area, a school bus of R.N. Gandhi School hit both of them. Although the bus, going from Ghatkopar east to Ghatkopar west, was carrying school children, it was over-speeding. Ashok came under the bus’s wheels and died while Suresh got pushed and sustained injuries. Locals held the bus driver and rushed both children to the nearest hospital, where Ashok was declared dead before admission.”

The officer added that they had arrested the bus driver, identified as Jallaludin Shaikh. Luckily, the children inside the bus did not get injured.
