A Spanish firm will act as design consultant for civil, architectural and mechanical works for construction of the Dahisar east – Andheri east Metro 7 corridor being implemented by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). “The Spanish firm ‘Ayesa’ has been shortlisted for acting as detailed design consultant and the firm will be soon given a formal approval,” said a MMRDA official.
Subsequently, MMRDA is also going to appoint a general consultant for the project that will oversee the entire work of civil contractors and design consultants right up to commissioning of the metro corridor. The 16.5 km elevated Metro 7 corridor has 16 stations in all and consultants will be appointed for 54 months. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 6,208 crore and MMRDA has set a deadline of 2019.
MMRDA also plans to extend the Metro 7 corridor from Andheri east to the international airport to ensure connectivity to the proposed Colaba – Bandra - Seepz Metro 3 corridor. Three companies including J. Kumar Infrastructure, NCC Infrastructure and Simplex Infrastructure have already been awarded the work order for the project to start. Of the three firms, J. Kumar has already started soil testing on the Western Express Highway which is the alignment of the project.
