A 37-year-old has been arrested on the charge of raping a 40-year-old widow after promising to marry her. A woman has filed a complaint with the Mulund police station Sunday night against the man after he threatened to rape her only daughter.
The woman stated in her complaint that the accused and she had been staying together since the past few months. The accused is the son of a former police officer in Pune and a resident of that city. He was married and had allegedly hid his marital status from the complainant. The man was unemployed and used to extort money from the widow who is working as an accountant in a well-known company. After she got fed up with his regular demands for money, she fought with him. The man then allegedly raped her and threatened to rape her 10-year-old daughter too.
Senior police official of Mulund police station, Rajaram Whanmane said, “We have arrested him under sections 376 and 383 of the IPC. We are investigating if he has been incriminated in such crime before or not.”
Police said the man has denied being in a relationship with the woman.
