A 31-year-old small-time actor who also runs a production house has been arrested for allegedly raping a 25-year-old aspiring model under pretext of marriage. He has been remanded to police custody till February 22 for further investigation.
Sources said that the accused, Sameer Kondekar, was in a live-in relationship with the model after he promised to marry her. Around six months ago, for unknown reasons, the couple parted ways.
For the past few days, Kondekar had allegedly started sending the model abusive text messages. She was distraught and finally approached the Oshiwara police station with a written complaint against Kondekar, stating how he sexually exploited her on the pretext of marriage.
The complainant came to Mumbai three years ago to become a model and actor in the Hindi film industry. She hails from Rajasthan and was staying in a rental accommodation in Andheri’s Four Bungalows area. She had completed a few modeling assignments as well. A mutual friend introduced her to Kondekar in 2013, who said he had good contacts in the TV and film industries and could land her some roles both on TV and in films. Gradually, they got into a relationship, after which Kondekar promised to marry her.
As the victim first approached the Oshiwara police, they registered an FIR and transferred it to the Versova police as the alleged rape incidents occurred under their jurisdiction in Andheri west.
